Grand Fundo 24th July

July 20, 2016

For the last three years, M&S have organised the Grand Fundo event for their staff in aid of Action Cancer but this year they have kindly agreed to let Team Forestside and our customers get involved. It promises to be a great family day out with a walking group led by M&S and a thirty mile (or 60 miles for those more intrepid among us) cycle ride led by Team Forestside riders, then back to Forestside for refreshments, music and a cycle challenge on mall. Forestside’s charity partner Marie Curie will benefit from the proceeds as well as Action Cancer so if you’re free on Sunday 24th July we‘d love to see you.

Cyclists will sign on at 9.30am outside M&S and depart from the Centre at 10am. The route will take them up the Ballygowan Road and out to Killinchy then looping round and back to Forestside via Lisbane, Ballydrain and Comber. Those who feel that 30 miles isn’t enough are welcome to ride the route twice making a total of 60 miles.

If you would like to take part, we are requesting a £10 donation for adults and £5 for under 16’s; these will be direct donations to the two charities. There is an additional £2 day licence fee for insurance if you are not already a member of Cycling Ireland.

There will also be a free coffee & scone stop at ‘The Conservatory Café’ Killinchy, next to Balloo House after approximately 14 miles for those doing the 30 mile route and another refreshment stop at Forestside for those completing the 60 mile route.

Danny, Lee, Ben, David, Willie, Paul and Martin braved the scorching weather at the weekend to do a second test of the Grand Fundo route. The verdict is that it is a great wee ride with a fantastic coffee and bun stop just about half way.

Anyone wishing to take part in the walk around Belvoir Forest can obtain details from M&S.

Back at Forestside there will be fun on mall from 12 until 4pm with refreshments, music and face painting again in aid of Action Cancer and Marie Curie.

We’re really looking forward to the event, and hoping for great weather for the cyclists and walkers but we know it’s going to be a fantastic family day out while raising much needed funds for these two wonderful charities so if you would like to take part or get involved, we’d love to see you. Just get in touch.
