Secure Bike Park Launch.

May 20, 2014

Forestside has installed a Secure Bike Park to make shopping easier and safer for cyclists. It is situated at the Sainsbury's entrance under cover and is CCTV monitored. We have also purchased a stock of Gold Standard Kryptonite Evolution bike locks supplied by the Policing Community Safety Partnership for customer use. As these bike locks are expensive pieces of kit, we require registration with us in order to use them. All we ask is that you register your contact details with us at Helping Hands, opposite M&S. We will then give you a bike lock membership card which can be exchanged for the bike lock at Attridge & Cole, outside Sainsbury's. When you have finished with the lock, simply return it at Attridge & Cole or Helping Hands if after 5.30pm in exchange for your card.

To help us launch the Secure Bike Park we enlisted the help of some of the students from St. Bernard's Primary school and their Head Teacher Kieran to have some fun with their bicycles on mall. 28 students rode up to Forestside from Wynchurch Walk accompanied by a Police escort and our own Security cyclists and a Rickshaw! They arrived to find that we had set up four zones on mall to illustrate the energy produced from powering the bikes. One zone pedalled their way to artistic stardom by powering a paint spraying machine, another team managed to raise a thirty foot inflatable by pedalling to power the pump. Another zone held speed trials with one student especially racking up a speed close to Olympic standard! (We will watch that space with interest.) Zone four was occupied by the PSNI who security marked the bikes against theft and safety checked them.

After a snack, the students and Head Teacher cycled back to school having hopefully had a great time with us. Our thanks go to the students and Head Teacher of St. Bernard's Primary School, Policing Community Safety Partnership and Sport NI who funded the event. Thanks also to Rab Gardener who coordinated the activities.

If you are interested in registering for our Secure Bike Lock scheme, simply visit the Helping Hands desk opposite M&S and sign up for a membership card. ID required.

We have 5 of these Gold Standard Kryponite Evolution locks worth approximately £50 each to give away. If you'd like to be in with a chance of winning one of these locks please keep an eye on our Facebook page. As soon as you see the post offering a chance to win, simply 'Like' the Forestside page and leave a comment stating why you would like to own one.
