January Detox!
Ok so, I have officially eaten not just my bodyweight but pretty much the combined bodyweight of my entire family over the festive period. I’m pretty sure at least 40% of that was in cheese alone….. So, come January 1st, like everyone else I’ve been seeking out a way to feel slightly less like a large cast member of Frozen Planet.
So my New Year’s Resolution has been to be a bit better about both actually eating breakfast and when I do, having something that isn’t a big bacon sarnie. (Typically having typed that I now want one.)
So being that I am not a morning person I need something that is pretty quick, easy & straightforward so I’ve been experimenting with the blender over the past couple of days for good smoothie recipes and yup, you really can have breakfast in your hand as you head out the door in the morning.
Easiest of all has to be my Berry Yoghurt smoothie. I bung a good handful of the fantastic Summer Fruit Mix that Sainsbury’s have in their freezer section, with a small pot of Marks & Spencer low fat natural probiotic yogurt and a good glug of orange juice (about 50 ml if you’re a measurer). Whizz it up and you are ready to go!
For something a bit more substantial to keep you filled up until lunch, put 4 tablespoons of porridge oats (bear with me I promise its good!) into your blender first and grind them down to a fine powder. When you’ve done this pop a banana in along with another small pot of Marks & Spencer low fat natural probiotic yogurt. You could leave it at this but it’s usually a bit thick for me so I loosen it with a little milk and sneak in a good teaspoon of honey – I can’t give up my sweet tooth!
To fool myself that it isn’t the depths of winter and put a bit of sunshine (and some much needed Vitamin C) blend together a banana, a handful of mango chunks (helpfully Sainsbury’s have those in the freezer section too) half a mug of semi skimmed milk and a good glug of orange juice. If you’ve any limes left over from NYE, a squeeze from a wedge will give it a bit of freshness.
